Two people injured in a wreck on Ga. 20 west on Wednesday afternoon have been released from Floyd Medical Center, hospital officials said.

Evagelene Philips and Carlene Bowles were in a silver Ford Explorer that crashed with a red Honda civic, driven by Shannon Wilson of Dallas. Both Philips and Bowles were taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

According to Trooper Stan Smith of the Georgia State Patrol, Philips was driving the Explorer east on Ga. 20 when she attempted to turn left onto Ga. 100, in the path of Wilson, who was driving west on Ga. 20.

Smith said Thursday that Philips was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

Traffic on Ga. 100 was completely blocked for about 30 minutes while emergency crews worked the scene.

Two people were hospitalized late Wednesday afternoon after a two-car wreck on Ga. 20 at the intersection of Ga. 100 North.

According to Trooper Stan Smith of the Georgia State Patrol:

A burgundy Honda Civic driven by Shannon Wilson of Dallas was traveling west on Ga. 20 around 5 p.m. Smith said a silver Ford Explorer driven by 50-year-old Evagelene Philips of Lyerly was traveling east on Ga. 20 and apparently tried to turn left onto Ga. 100, into the path of Wilson’s car.

Wilson braked hard but collided with the Ford in the intersection.

The impact spun both cars around, and Smith said that Philips and her passenger, Carlene Bowles, were taken to Floyd Medical Center.

Smith said Wilson sustained minor injuries.

He said no charges have yet been filed, and the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

FMC officials said Wednesday night that both were still being treated in the emergency room.----------
